Follicular units are selected and extracted by an intelligent algorithm aided by an intuitive control system. The procedure guarantees the preservation of a natural look of the donor area. Designed to optimize the surgeon’s abilities and craft, the ARTAS™ system consistently delivers great results.

The ARTAS™ system has been developed both by robotic experts and leading hair transplant specialists. It uses guided digital imagery and an intelligent algorithm to optimize graft extraction. The characteristics of follicular units are tracked in real time at an actualization rate of 60 adjustments per second. The HD interface provides multiple views of the donor area and allows the surgeons to adjust extraction parameters without interrupting the procedure. Thanks to the ARTAS™ procedure, follicular units are extracted with a speed and precision well beyond what manual procedures can provide.

The ARTAS™ procedure restores hair density by transplanting hairs from the back or sides of the scalp to the blading areas. Our surgeon uses the ARTAS™ system to extract healthy follicles.

The ARTAS™ technology uses digital imagery to generate a very precise cartography of the patient’s follicular units. Our surgeon then uses the robot to precisely and cleanly extract grafts. The donor area will maintain a natural look. The surgical support team then meticulously re-implants the grafts on the scalp’s recipient area according to a pattern discussed with and approved by the patient.


The scalp’s donor area for follicular unit extraction will be shaved to about 1mm length so that the ARTAS™ system can easily analyse and detect follicular units. A local anaesthetic is administered so as to make the procedure totally painless. The ARTAS™ system produces a detailed cartography of the donor area. This way, the best follicular units to extract are selected.

Under our surgeon’s supervision, the system extracts follicular units from the donor area in such a way that a natural look is maintained. This process goes on until the required number of grafts have been extracted. The follicular units are the transplanted to the balding areas according to the implantation design agreed upon with our surgeon. These transplanted grafts will produce permanent hair.


Most patients resume work a day or two after the procedure. One week after the transplant, both donor and recipient areas look the way they did before the procedure began. Very visible results can be seen six months after the procedure. Nine months after the procedure, the head of hair looks dense and natural ; this look will last for life.

What is a follicular unit?

We all know what a hair follicle is, but few people realise that hairs grow in batches on the scalp. These groups of hairs are called follicular units and generally comprise 1 to 4 follicles. During a hair transplant procedure, single-hair follicular units are transplanted along the hairline in an irregular, natural-looking manner. Multiple-hair follicular units are transplanted above the hairline, across the selected balding area in order to provide density. This process ensures a permanent and perfectly natural-looking result.

All types of patients, whatever their ethnicity or hair girth :

The procedure being non-abrasive, the patient may at most feel a slight stretching sensation during the procedure. Weak painkillers may be administered if required.

Moist pads or vaporised water may be applied to the donor and recipient area regularly during the 2 to 3 days after the procedure. Some of the transplanted hairs may fall out but their root remains intact and the hair will grow back over time.

Serious complications are extremely rare.


Small procedures may be performed on patients as young as 20 years old, but this is rare and depends on various criteria.

Obviously, further balding may occur, so younger patients should consider waiting for a relative stabilization of the balding process. A precise treatment plan will be discussed with the surgeon during the initial consultation.

Fuzzy and curly hair have a particular anatomical and physiological structure. The graft usually has a helicoidal shape and its root is curved.

Therefore, until ARTAS™ was granted the proper permissions to transplant such hairs, only the traditional scalp strip transplant method could be performed on them. The ARTAS™ “scanner” technology now allows a precise and reliable punch extraction of the follicular units.

Transection rates remain low at 3 to 5% of follicular units.
